Coming from good pioneer stock finds me often in the forefront of what's coming. Seldom do I see the fruition of my efforts, but knowing that I'm helping to usher in new things keeps me going. I can see them in the distance, and I hurry onward, but they are elusive. I often wish that I could just "arrive"--rest and enjoy the moment. Mostly, it's not to be. Still, it is a wonderful thing to be a pioneer. Caroline, I'm your granddaughter and I'm just like you, I hope.

Life is worth living for:
- Wild berries at the edge of the hayfield on my farm
- Warm, soft apricots fresh off the tree
- Swinging and singing
- Organic food, fresh from the garden
- Chocolate chips
- Breezy, crisp autumn days
- A shower and fresh sheets at the end of a long day
- A kiss and/or hug from someone I love and who loves me
